That's an interesting question. Does Tesla have access to the computing power of its fleet of vehicles, when they aren't driving, so that the customers are paying to build elon a supercomputer? Or are those cycles just going to waste? can a tesla run seti or other distributed software?

Also, how much of the cost of the car is the computers and software? I'll be interested to see if the model 3 gets cheaper over time, or stays at the current level to keep funding other projects. If you think of it as a large mobile computer, moore's law applies.

idea note department:

don't consider your tesla investments as an investment, but as a tithe to a better future.
so i could start a "cult of tesla" i think i mean mazda-somebody, those maxfield parish prints.
then, i could put funds into church bonds, which can be marketed with less regulation.
goal of the bonds is to buy tesla stock and vehicles and products. oh, and astronaut sunday school for the kids.

so for the typical consumer, jo 6paq,

she makes 50k.

25k to living expenses.
rent
utilities - opportunity to add in tithe for solar roof.
car        - order a model 3.
childcare
food
etc


x to taxes ~ 10 or 20 %
10% to charity =$5K. 100% to tesla purchases and stock.
that leaves about 30%, $15K, to invest.
$4k in an ira invested in tesla stock. That leaves $11K to pay off the model 3 and the solar roof.
Then save for the downpayment on the roadster or pickup or model y.
